About the Event
MECHNOVATE 2026 is a hands-on mechanical innovation, product design, and innovation challenge organized by RK University, where students will transform a given real-world engineering problem into an innovative solution through idea sketching and physical prototyping. The event consists of two exciting rounds. In Round 1 – IDEA SKETCH, participants will analyse the given problem statement and present their proposed solution on an A1-size sheet using hand-drawn sketches, labels, dimensions, components, and a brief explanation of the working principle. Shortlisted teams will advance to Round 2.
In Round 2 – PROTOTYPE BUILD, participants will convert their proposed concept into a working model or prototype using the materials and resources provided by the organizers, primarily including cardboard, thermocol, and other permitted materials. The prototype will then be demonstrated and evaluated based on its functionality, engineering concept, creativity, feasibility, and performance.
Event Rules
- Eligibility & Team: Open to Diploma and B.Tech students from all years. Each team must consist of 2 participants, and a participant can register in only one team.
- Problem Statement: A common engineering/mechanical problem statement will be revealed at the beginning of Round 1 and must be solved within the given time.
- Originality: All ideas, sketches, and prototypes must be original and developed during the event. Pre-designed, pre-built, or copied solutions are strictly prohibited.
- Round 1 – IDEA SKETCH: Teams must present their proposed solution on the provided A1-size sheet using hand-drawn sketches, clearly showing the design, working principle, major components, and application.
- No Digital Assistance: CAD software, internet resources, AI-generated designs, mobile phones, or other digital design tools are not permitted during Round 1. Only basic drawing and stationery instruments are allowed.
- Round 2 – PROTOTYPE BUILD: Shortlisted teams must convert their Round 1 concept into a working model/prototype within the allotted 90-minute duration.
- Materials & Resources: Teams must use only the materials, tools, and resources provided or approved by the organizers. Bringing ready-made models or unauthorized components is not permitted.
- Functionality & Modification: The prototype should demonstrate the intended working principle/function. Teams may make practical modifications during Round 2, but the fundamental concept must remain based on their Round 1 idea.
- Safety & Fair Play: Participants must follow all safety instructions, use materials and tools responsibly, and avoid hazardous materials, unsafe mechanisms, cheating, copying, or unauthorized assistance.
- Time, Judging & Final Decision: Teams must complete each round within the specified time. The judges' evaluation and the organizing committee's decision shall be final and binding. The organizers may make necessary changes for safety or smooth execution.
Evaluation of participants across both rounds will be conducted to determine the winner.
