About the Event

IDEA INCUBATOR is a product design challenge where teams are given a common product with specific design constraints on the event day. Each team must generate 2–3 concept sketches on A4 sheets, justify their chosen design, and further develop it into a CAD model using available software. Final submissions include 2D and 3D drawings. The event tests creativity, feasibility, innovation, aesthetics, and teamwork.

Event Rules

  • Before the event day, 4 to 5 products will be specified for the students, which will be listed on the Technoplanet website under the IDEA INCUBATOR event tab. On the day of the event that one product will be given to the team. The product will be the same for every team. Here, the product will be given with some design constraints on the spot, and product design teams have to propose their designs accordingly. 

For example-  Product: Modification of a Tiffin box, 

Design Constrained: may be like length and width, at least two brackets for vegetables, and a spoon will be attached to it. And there should be a provision to put pickles in it separately. 

  • Every design team has to prepare a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 concepts of a given product. To generate concepts A4 A4-sized sheets will be given to them. Concepts must be in hard copy and prepared using hand only. After the development of the concept, they have to select any one concept for further development. However designer team has to give justification for their selection.  Later on, the design team has to prepare a CAD model for the selected concept. The designer team is free to choose any CAD software package. The Technoplanet team will provide AutoCAD, ProE only. Available versions of software will be listed soon on the Technoplanet website. At the time of submission of the proposed design, every designer team has to submit a part drawing, an assembly drawing in 3D, and a 2D drawing. 
  • Team Size - 02 Members
  • Duration of the event- 4 Hr
  • Material Provided - For round 1: A4 size sheets & For round 2: Computer with CAD software access 
  • Judging Criteria - Innovation in Concept Generation; Feasibility and selection of the concept; Aesthetic and ergonomics; Modeling, presentation, and teamwork will be key points for evaluation.

Note: No internet or other resources will be allowed to be used during the competition.

Note: The organizers reserve all rights to change any or all of the above rules, as they deem fit. Some of the rules of the event will be told on the spot.
