About the Event

CIVILTECH AI CHALLENGE 2026 is an exciting student-oriented technical event designed to introduce participants to the practical application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Civil Engineering. The event provides students with an opportunity to combine AI tools and Civil Engineering knowledge to solve real-world problems related to Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Surveying, Concrete Technology, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Water Resources Engineering. The competition follows a practical progression where participants first learn to use AI effectively, apply it to a realistic Civil Engineering problem, verify AI-generated information using engineering knowledge, and finally present and defend their proposed solution. The event does not require programming or advanced AI knowledge, with the focus on practical Civil Engineering problem-solving, effective prompting, engineering judgment, teamwork, innovation, and communication.

Event Rules

Competition Rules

  1. General Rules:
    • Only registered Diploma Civil Engineering students may participate.
    • Each team must consist of 2 members.
    • All team members must contribute to the solution and presentation.
    • Organizers may assign different challenge topics to different teams.
    • Students are not required to have prior AI expertise.
  2. Permitted Resources:
    • The approved AI tool for the competition is ChatGPT.
    • Participants may use internet resources, calculators, and spreadsheets.
    • Textbooks, notes, and relevant reference materials may be used as permitted by the organizers.
  3. Not Permitted:
    • Copying another team’s solution.
    • Submitting a pre-prepared solution.
    • Presenting unverified AI-generated output as a final engineering decision.
    • Misrepresenting another person’s work or data as the team’s own.
  4. AI Disclosure: Each team must disclose the AI tools used, representative prompts, important AI-generated suggestions, and explain how the final engineering solution was verified or modified.

Competition Structure

Round Activity
Round 1 AI Civil Engineering Workshop
Round 2 Real-World Civil Engineering Challenge
Round 3 AI Engineering Solution Pitch

Round 1 – AI Civil Engineering Workshop

Round 1 is an interactive workshop designed to provide all teams with a common foundation in AI-assisted Civil Engineering problem-solving.

The workshop, titled “AI as a Civil Engineering Assistant: From Problem Identification to Engineering Solution,” will introduce participants to the practical use of AI in Civil Engineering.

During the workshop, the event organizer will demonstrate the complete process of Problem Identification → Prompt Creation → AI Response → Verification → Final Engineering Decision using a real Civil Engineering problem.

The workshop will also include a Team Prompt Challenge, where each team will be given a Civil Engineering problem and guided to develop an effective engineering prompt to obtain a useful AI-assisted solution.

Round 2 – Real-World Civil Engineering Challenge

Each team will receive one practical Civil Engineering problem. The problem should be supported by a small data package wherever possible, such as a site sketch, photograph, dimensions, simple project information, or illustrative data.

  • Teams may use approved AI tools and other resources permitted by the organizers.
  • Teams must prepare a practical preliminary solution.
  • Teams must maintain an AI Usage Log.
  • Teams must clearly identify their assumptions and limitations.
  • AI-generated suggestions must be separated from the team’s final engineering decisions.
  • Students are not expected to prepare construction-ready professional designs.

Recommended Challenge Areas:

  • Site Planning and Surveying
  • Estimation and Valuation
  • Construction Planning
  • Concrete & Materials
  • Road & Traffic
  • Drainage & Water
  • Construction Safety

Round 3 – Final AI Engineering Solution Pitch

All teams will proceed to the final round, with the same team members continuing from Round 2.

Presentation Component Time
Problem Definition 2 min
AI-Assisted Approach 2 min
Engineering Solution 2 min
Engineering Verification 1 min
Innovation / Practical Application 1 min
Judge Questions 2 min
Total 10 min/team

The team must clearly explain:

  • What did AI suggest?
  • What did the team accept?
  • What did the team reject or modify?
  • Why is the final solution technically and practically reasonable?
